Last week I took a little day-trip to see Kim in Charlottesville and pick apples at Carter Mountain Orchard. What a place!
We first stopped for lunch at The Flat a newish creperie in Charlottesville. It’s a very small and only really consists of an order window and a few chairs, but both of our crepes were delicious! The only downside was they were so big it made them quite hard to eat and messy. Next time we’re going to bring some picnic supplies and share a savory and a sweet.
After lunch we headed up to Carter Mountain Orchard which is only about a 15 minute drive from downtown Charlottesville. It’s up in the mountains though, with gorgeous views of the city and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We decided to pick Jonagold apples and filled up our bags in no time using this little contraption.
They also have a country store were we picked up some apple butter, toffee peanuts, a couple of their famous apple cider doughnuts, and tasted the apple cider.
The orchard is absolutely gorgeous and I’m happy to say the apples are perfect! They also have grape vines (you can buy their wine) and peaches (you can pick them in the summer). Can’t wait to go back!
